Konidela Chiranjeevi’s original name was Sivasankara Varaprasad Rao born on 22 Aug 1955 in Mogalturu, West Godavari District in Andrapradesh. Chiranjeevi’s father’s name is Konidela Venkata Rao who was a Constable and his mother’s name is Anjana Devi was a housewife. Chiranjeevi’s education happened in various places including Bapatla, Ponnuru, Nidadavolu, Gurazala, and Mogalturu due to his father’s job transfers.

His childhood was spent with his grandparents in his native place. He completed his Intermediate education in Ongole at C.S.R Sharma College. Chiranjeevi graduated Degree in Commerce in Narasapuram at Sri Y.N College and due to his interest in acting he joined a Madras film institute in 1976.

Personal Life

Chiranjeevi married Surekha who was the daughter of famous Telugu comic actor Allu Ramalingaiah on 20 Feb 1980. The couple had two daughters Sreeja, Sushmitha, and son Ramcharan. Chiranjeevi had two younger brothers Nagendra Babu who was a film producer and actor, and Pawan Kalyan who was an actor and founder of Janasena Party.

He had one brother-in-law Allu Aravind a film producer and Allu Arjun, Allu Sirish, Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej, and Vaisshnav Tej were nephews of Chiranjeevi.

Career in Yearly Wise (1978-1981)

The name Chiranjeevi was named for Sivasankara Varaprasad Rao by his mother because she is a devotee of Anjaneya. Shivasankara Varaprasad Rao’s name is changed to Chiranjeevi by his mother who is a devotee of Lord Anjaneya.

Chiranjeevi first appeared in Punadirallu it was his first debut in a Telugu movie as an artist. But before that, he appeared in Tayaramma Bangarayya in a small role as a guest character in 1979. He did small characters in a few movies in his starting career Pranam Khareedu and Manavoori Pandavulu both were directed by Bapu and these are the first released movies in which he acted.

Later, he acted in an anti-hero role in I Love You and Idhi Katha Kaadu directed by Vayu Nandana Rao and K. Balachandar. In 1979, he acted in a Tamil remake movie Avargal by Rajinikanth in the original. This year, eight movies were released in which Chiranjeevi acted and the following year 14 were released. He played the lead adversary characters in films such as Nyayam Kavali, 47 Rojulu, Ranuva Veeran, and Rani Kasula Rangamma.

1982-1986 (turning point)

Chiranjeevi played the first lead role in Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya directed by debut Kodi Ramakrishna in 1982 and gets a big hit at the box office. Later, he appeared in Subhalekha movie directed by K. Viswanath, the film made based on the dowry system. For this film, Chiranjeevi got the Filmfare award for best actor for the first time and the third Filmfare award for K. Viswanth.

1987-2007 Commercial Success

Chiranjeevi acted in Swayamkrushi directed by K. Viswanath in 1987 for this film, he got Nandi Award for the first time and hit a blockbuster hit at the box office including Manchi Donga, Yamudiki Mogudu, and Rudraveena this film he owned Nargis Dutt Award for the best feature film as well as Nandi Special Jury Award in 1988.

Swayamkrushi

He experimented with social fantasy film in Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari in 1990 directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. He experimented with Western-style movies in Kondaveeti Donga including Kodama Simham, all of which emerged as blockbuster hits at the box office. Continuing, next, he appeared  Social based action film Gang Leader which also hit a blockbuster at the box office, from there onwards people are calling him the Boss of Telugu Cinema.

In the early 1990s, Chiranjeevi appeared in the Bollywood films Pratibandh and Aaj Ka Goonda Raj. The third time he owned a Filmfare award and the second Nandi award in 1992 for the film Apadbandhavudu directed by K. Viswanth.

The Years between 1993 and 1995 were bad years for Chiranjeevi we can say according to his Telugu film career. Hiatus in Film Career (2008-16)

For approximately Chiranjeevi did not appear in films for 10 years. During these years he started his political career and founded Praja Rajyam Party in Andhra Pradesh, later, it disappeared. His appearance in films during these hiatus years was limited to guest, non-speaking, and generally small roles. He appeared in a guest role in two films with his son Ramcharan in the movies Bruce Lee and Magadheera.

2017 Onwards at Present

In 2017 he appeared in a lead role in the film Khaidi no. 150 which is a remake of the Tamil movie Kathhi starring Vijay Thalapathi. This is the best comeback for Chiranjeevi after a few years gap appearing in Khaidi No.150 we can say. This movie was directed by V.V Vinayak and got positive responses from the audience as well as critics, the movie collected around ₹ 41.75 Crore on its opening day, and the overall collection of the movie is around ₹ 164 crore.

In 2019, Chiranjeevi signed for Sye Ra Narasimha Reddy directed by Surender Reddy and the story moved around the history of Vuyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. This film hasn’t got a positive response from the audience and the movie was made on an estimated budget of ₹ 270 crores but the movie collected the unexpected amount of ₹ 240 crores.

Acharya was the last second movie he appeared in in 2022 after that he acted in the Godfather movie his last appearance was in 2022.

Television Career

Chiranjeevi made his Debut in 2017 as a host on Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu’s show in the fourth season aired on Maa Tv.

Political Career

Chiranjeevi founded Prajarajyam political party in 2008 in Andhra Pradesh state. His party agenda is to serve justice to the Andra people he said at the party launch. Elections were held in 2009, in that election Prajarajyam party won 18 seats out of 294 assembly seats. He stood in Thirupathi and Palakollu constituencies, he won at Thirupathi elections but not in Palakollu.

Chiranjeevi merged his party into the Indian National Congress on 6 FEB 2011 at that time the party is 30 month year old. After two weeks of conversations with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi decided to nominate him for Rajya Sabha but it happened after one year, eventually, Chiranjeevi was nominated for Rajya Sabha on 29 March 2012.

Chiranjeevi-in-Politics

Chiranjeevi was elected as Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and he was sworn in for that post on 28 October 2012. In 2014, the Andhra Pradesh state is split into Andhra and Telangana, most members of the wing of the Congress party of Andhra Pradesh left in protest, Chiranjeevi and some others remained with the Congress party, held campaigns alongside Congress to participate in the Parliament and Assembly elections. He stayed away from active politics since 2014 and hadn’t participated in any party meetings since now and then.

Social Service & Charities

During the mid 90’s when he is being active in movies, he founded Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust, in short CCT, on 2 October 1998, which includes Blood Bank and Eye Banks. The Blood Bank Trust has made over 68,000 blood donations and 1414 Eye donations in the Andhra Pradesh State. Eye Bank has helped about 1,000 people and 80,000 people Blood Bank.

CCT-BB&EB

Nearly around 350,000 people tested their eyes through CCT and CCT has given eyesight for 1600 people. On 10 June 2006, Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust owned Best Voluntary Blood Bank Award from the AP State government.
