Early Life
Vijay Gurunatha Sethupathi was born in 1978 on January 16 in a small village Rajapalayam in Tamilnadu, when he was in Sixth standard his family moved to Ennore Chennai.
His father Kalimuthu worked as a civil engineer and his mother Saraswathi is a homemaker, he is the third child to his parents he has three siblings one elder brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister.
He did his schooling at MGR Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam, and Little Mat. Hr. In secondary school, he was not good at studies, not even any other activities like sports or extracurricular activities.
Later he studied at Dhanraj Baid Jain College, he got his bachelor’s degree in Commerce, he did many part-time jobs as a salesman, storekeeper, and many other jobs while he was studying for his pocket money coz he didn’t want to bother his family for his personal expenses.
After completing his Degree he went to work in Dubai as an accountant, he wanted to settle in Dubai forever, but see now where he is, after working for a few days he didn’t feel good in Dubai so he return to his home town Chennai India.
After returning from Dubai he need to work for himself but it took time to choose the right work for him a few days later he got the idea to start an interior decorating business so he started that business with his friends.
Things were going well he thought that he settled in that business but at some point, he thought that something was missing in his life, he wanted something unique which gives him satisfaction.
So he tried to enter into movies but his family situations were holding him back from movies he never withdraw his attention towards movies he kept trying to get good opportunities to step into movies.
He used to go to auditions but they didn’t satisfy with his acting they use to reject him every single by saying that there is no grace in acting, but he never considered their words and he kept trying for good opportunities.
One of the Tamil Directors Balu Mahindra re-approached Sethupathi that he has a good photogenic face and encouraged him towards films but the thing is the director never gave him an opportunity to work in his films.

When he was working in Dubai as an accountant he met his wife Jessie on social media, and they liked each other and fell in love after he returned from Dubai he got married to Jessie.
This couple gave birth to a son Surya Sethupathi and a daughter Shreeja Sethupathi, he named his son Surya, it was his childhood best friend’s name who died in his childhood.
Sethupathi Son also made his debut as a child artist in Nanum Rowdy Dhaan, and Sindhubaadh currently his kids are concentrating on their studies, while his wife Jessie is a homemaker.

Cine Career
With a passion for cinema, he went to join to work as an actor and an actor as well in the Koothu-P-Pattarai the traditional theatre arts which is a theatre group in Chennai, Tamilnadu.
So working there he got the chance to learn how they performed so he could learn everything about acting, then he got an opportunity to work as a background artist as a friend of lead actors in Tamil movies and serials as well.
He appeared mostly on television series like Penn in 2006 the popular TV series, after that, he starred in many other short films, but he never got an opportunity as a lead role.
His first film was M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi which was released in 2004, Vijay Sethupathi worked as a boxing spectator in that film the main lead was Jayam Ravi.
After working on that film the director was impressed by his performance in that film so he suggested Sethupathi to another director Seenu Ramasamy to cast Sethupathi in this film.
Sethupathi worked on a movie called Akhaada, a remake of a Kannada film unfortunately, the film didn’t release in theatres but the director noticed his passion and his acting style.
So he gave a chance to act in Thenmerku Paruvakaatru his first leading role movie in this movie was released in 2010, this feature film went on to receive three National Awards for its outstanding storyline.
